When HoneyMan's mother had to be moved here years ago from another state, along came many boxes of her things and family heirlooms. She has since passed on and I am still unpacking the boxes. She never threw anything away and the house she lived in really showed. She saved HoneyMan's rocking horse and photos... so many treasures I have yet to discover. I have had these quilts folded in a chair in the living room. I wanted to take a photo of them opened up.
They are all handmade and appliquéd. The intricate hand quilting is astounding with at least 10-11 stitches per inch.
I hope you will enjoy these photos as much as I have had the pleasure in taking care of these beauties. I wish I knew more about them.
The blue flying geese pattern one you can tell its been well used. The edge and border of flying geese are really tattered.

Oh my, what beautiful quilts. You are so fortunate to have them. They are treasures! I love quilts. I'd much rather sleep under a quilt than under a blanket! They are so snug-a-bug! I absolutely love the picture on your header! My sister is always saying... "You and your birds!" I don't have any, but love pictures of them! That is a great shot you made of the bird in your birdbath!
I love quilts! A dear friend of mine hand quilted three quilt tops pieced by my great grandmother. They are treasures! Love the photo of "honeyman" and the two of you also!!

Your Mother-in-laws quilts are lovely. The hours and hours it took to sew each one are countless. My grandmother's quilts were made from their old clothes scraps. When Mom comes to visit us in the winter and wants her Mom's quilt to cover up with, she'll point to a piece of material and tell me what grade she was in or what year she wore that dress or that blouse or those pants. Quilts are a history book for some :-}}

LOVE those quilts!!!!! And I love that Robin in the birdbath! We only see Robins for a little while in the winter here in Florida, and my oh my. . . they LOVE the birdbaths!!!!!

Now those are beautiful quilts too. That's some gorgeous work with all of the applique! My mother's a quilter and she always checks out the stitches the first thing when she sees a quilt!

I love these quilts! You have a wonderful collection. I can't part with even my ratty ones. Someone somewhere spent so much time sewing the tiny stitching, it would break my heart to do away with them. Like Rita's comment, I would rather sleep under a quilt than the finest blanket.
Each one of these is stunning and look to be so well preserved and clean. I like the idea of being appliquéd, something which can be done in small segments by hand. Is the background cloth one whole piece or has the front been done in segments and later pieced together? I think a quilt made like this would be more rewarding to make and sturdier than one of hundreds of seams.
