Craft Time! Fabric Covered Boxes. Come let's Get Creative.

Carrot Cake..Looks yummy right?...cough....cough...
Too dry, need loads of milk to wash this down.

Birthday party...

Fabric covered decorative gift boxes, you can use any shape box templates you like.
Great for wedding favors, baby showers, gifts in general.   Add the gift inside the box, its like 2 gifts in one and they make a cute display. (see end of post on how-too)

For now, enjoy the eye candy and inspirational ideas.

Some Where Over The Rainbow

Note: You can do an "Image" search on the web for templates, there are loads of them for free or create your own. I got a package of templates from Oriental Trading. For the larger cake slice, I made my own template.

You will need:
Box templates
Cardstock cardboard
Glue sticks
Fabric
Trim/ribbon
Spray Starch
A piece of plastic ( credit card will do) or a ruler.
Iron
Scissors (not your good ones)

I ironed and spray-starched all the fabric scraps. On the back side of the cardstock cardboard, I traced my template then flipped the cardstock over and put glue on the front. Lay the fabric (right side up) onto the glued cardstock and press with a flat piece of plastic...those old credit cards work very well or the plastic ruler. Wait about an hour for the box to dry some. I have an assembly line going so by the time I get 10 templates covered I can go back to the first one and cut out the box and assemble it. Let the box dry over night, then have fun decorating them.

On some boxes for those very special gifts I covered the inside of the box with fabric as well. This makes for a very sturdy box.

Hope you got some inspiration to create some yourself. If you don't want to cover the box with fabric, you can use already printed cardstock. There are some cute printed patterns out there.

ouch! Been Stuck?

Pincushions are something I need in most every room of the house. I am always carrying my sewing projects from room to room. Here are some photos of my take on the strawberry pattern pincushion and one I made from the bottom of a plastic water bottle.
